INTRODUCTION

The Christmas season is full of wonder!—seasonal songs and carols, decorated trees, gifts filled with secrets, children wide-eyed with anticipation, some of us enjoying reruns of It’s a Wonderful Life, friends spending more time with friends, or a midnight candlelight service on Christmas Eve.

However, the true reason Christmas exists at all is because of the “Christ” whose name appears in “Christmas”—a term first coined by religious leaders in Europe in 1089. The “mas” in the word refers to the times Christians focus specifically on how Jesus gave his body and blood for us on the cross—which could never have happened, of course, without the “en-flesh-ment” (incarnation) of God’s Son.

The fact is this: No cradle, no cross.

Therefore, every Christmas, two billion Christians across the planet celebrate the unfathomable truth that the God of infinity took on flesh and blood in the form of infancy.

So, join me on this eight-part Advent adventure as we transform the “holiday” of Christmas 2024 into a genuine “holy day” for all of us.

That’s the promise! It it ours because the amazing, surprising, remarkable, cosmic, profound—yet intimate—truths we’re about to uncover hold the potential to radically change how you look at Jesus and walk with him throughout all of 2025.

To do so, we will pursue eight major truths of this miracle of miracles, including:

  1. In Jesus Christ, the entirety of the Deity deliberately took on frailty for us.
  2. To do what Christ has done for us, he had to be united to us.
  3. Jesus’ incarnation invasion provides for our reconciliation.
  4. Becoming one of us, Jesus proves God’s total commitment to us.
  5. Jesus embodies God’s servant heart toward us and for us.
  6. By his compassion, Christ personally engaged our low and lost estate.
  7. Forever, as one of us, Christ defines what lies ahead for all of us.
  8. The relationship of the incarnation of God’s Son tells us about his rulership in our lives today.
