America, Return to the Reigning Christ Today or
“There Will Be HELL to Pay!”

The calls for an American CHRIST Awakening are coming from many different quarters. They are expressed in various ways, but all carry a warning. Historically speaking—as well as in view of eternity—our nation’s destiny hangs in the balance today.
More and more, Jesus followers sense that America has reached a spiritual inflection point. Our nation faces sobering choices in this hour. Everything appears to be on the line, with severe consequences if we do not choose rightly—and soon.
This urgent warning is sounding from many parts of the Body of Christ, including from within the Catholic Church in America.
In his latest book, Christendom Lost and Found: Meditations for a Post Post-Christian Era, Fr. Robert McTeigue, S.J. refuses to mince words. He writes:
Christ is the king: We’re here to extend His reign, to make Christ the king known and loved. Christ crucified, Christ risen, is not only returning at the end of days to judge the living and the dead and the world by fire: Christ reigns now. He is sovereign now. And we acknowledge that to our benefit, or we turn a blind eye to our peril.
With a grieving heart, he also writes:
We treat the Ascension as: “Alright. Jesus is gone. He’s an absentee landlord. We’re on our own.” And as Jesuits, you and I cannot tolerate that. Christ is at work in the here and now, always inviting. And it breaks my heart, as a Jesuit, that that’s hard to convince Catholics of.
This world-renowned Jesuit professor represents another prominent voice helping to shepherd the Church in America, raising concern among the faithful remnant willing to listen. And based on CHRIST NOW field research, I believe millions are ready to do so.
This movement back to Christ must take hold quickly and broadly.
The Christian community at large—Protestant, Catholic, Evangelical, Pentecostal, Orthodox—must once again become wholly alive to the whole vision of the whole Christ. In turn, doing so will cause God’s people across the Body of Christ to bring the reality of the active, saving lordship of Jesus back into the forefront of our national conversation, political and otherwise, as well as into the reshaping of our entire culture.
We’re at a crisis moment in our nation for the cause of Christ.
Father McTeigue explored this ominous truth in a one-hour televised interview a few days ago. He warned us, as the Body of Christ in this land, that if we don’t return to the reigning Christ for who he is and all he is doing right now and wholeheartedly recommit ourselves to the lordship of Jesus over us, then soon, in professor McTeigue’s own words—which he says he means literally—
“There will be HELL to pay!”
Does that sound too harsh? Too melodramatic? Perhaps too ominous? I don’t think so. Is it worth taking seriously? Absolutely!

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, PRAY!
Pray strongly, urgently, and consistently that the Church will seek the Father—that in his mercy, he would pour out the Holy Spirit to open our eyes and hearts to the presence and power of the reigning Son of God.
Pray that he would forgive us for not consistently exalting Christ in ALL his supremacy in our churches and lives but instead settling for a weak, puny “Jesus.” Ask him to stir in us a passion to seek to know more, experience more, and become more for HIS glory.
How can a nationwide Christ Awakening happen WITHOUT the gracious outpouring of the Holy Spirit? Could it be that we “have not because we ask not?”
