Jesus is…
The Verdant Pasture

“My people have been lost sheep;
their shepherds have led them astray
and caused them to roam on the mountains.
They wandered over mountain and hill
and forgot their own resting place.
Whoever found them devoured them;
their enemies said, ‘We are not guilty,
for they sinned against the Lord, their verdant pasture,
the Lord, the hope of their ancestors.’
Dear Father, I love to think about Jesus as the Verdant Pasture for me and for all who have received Him as our Lord. I am so grateful that He far exceeds a dictionary definition of verdant pasture: “a place where animals feed or graze on lush, green growth.” I praise Jesus that every characteristic, attribute, word, action, promise and command of His is verdant, or lush and full of life. What a wonderful privilege we followers of His have to pasture in Him, as it says in Psalm 100:3, “Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture,” and in Psalm 95:7, “He is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care.” I Worship Him that He is our all-sufficient hope, as He has been for all of our ancestors in the faith. I am very sorry that the people of Israel, and so many of His followers today (me included), have at some time turned away from Him and been “devoured” by our enemies. I repent for our sins against the Verdant Pasture, and pray that You will cleanse us and keep us constantly living in His ceaseless righteousness, justice, peace, rest, security, provision and love. I pray that You will help many unsaved people in our spheres of influence to become completely dissatisfied with the false pastures they have been depending upon, so they can find refreshingly verdant life in Jesus. I pray these things in His hope-filled name. Amen.
