SCRIPTURE READING:
Numbers 24:15-19
Then he spoke his message:
“The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor,
the prophecy of one whose eye sees clearly,
the prophecy of one who hears the words of God,
who has knowledge from the Most High,
who sees a vision from the Almighty,
who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened:
“I see him, but not now;
I behold him, but not near.
A star will come out of Jacob;
a scepter will rise out of Israel.
He will crush the foreheads of Moab,
the skulls of all the people of Sheth.
Edom will be conquered;
Seir, his enemy, will be conquered,
but Israel will grow strong.
A ruler will come out of Jacob
and destroy the survivors of the city.”
SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST embodies the fullness of the brilliance, splendor and radiance found in the universe.
Dear Father, I understand that great rulers and deliverers in early Oriental culture were called “stars,” and I assume King David was likely the near-term ruler that Balaam was referring to as a star that would come out of Jacob (Israel) in this prophecy. But, I praise Jesus that He is now, and will forever be, the ultimate Star. Glory to Jesus that all the attributes of this Star are in Him alone: He possesses the brilliance, brightness and splendor of the Godhead; He shines through the darkness and outshines all other lights; He radiates Your holiness, knowledge, grace, truth, guidance, wonder, consistency, beauty and much more; He is uncontainable and undiminishable; He is ever-present; He is the deliverer for Israel and all people. I pray that many believers will very soon awaken to the magnificence of the Star, and be hungry to live in all His brightness. May many non-believers “see the light” and come to Him too. I pray these things in His name. Amen.
