Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, “Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?” But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer.
Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?”
“I am,” said Jesus. “And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
Dear Father, What an amazing interchange this was between Jesus and the high priest! I am surprised that Jesus answered this question, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?” I remember that in the Matthew 26:63 account, the high priest had given Jesus a solemn oath to answer it. Oh, I am so glad that He did answer! I give all praise to Jesus that here He unmistakably confirmed to the high priest and all the Jewish rulers in attendance His position as the Christ (Messiah and Anointed One) and His divinity as the One and Only Son of the Blessed One (Father and Almighty God). I would have loved to be there to hear Him speak two of the most monumental words of His earthly life: “I am.” I am further filled with praise of Jesus that He then declared that one day they would see Him sitting at Your mighty right hand in heaven, then returning to earth as Lord of all. Truly, Jesus Christ is the supreme Son of the Blessed One! I join King David in His praise in Psalm 8:1 that is ultimately fulfilled in Christ: “LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth. You have set your glory in the heavens.” I pray that You will help me and believers everywhere to hunger to know as much as we possibly can about His greatness, and to give ourselves to worshiping and adoring Him. I pray these things in the name of the blessed Christ. Amen.
