SCRIPTURE READING:
1 Peter 2:24-25
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.” For “you were like sheep going astray,” but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST cares perfectly for His sheep.
Dear Father, I thank You profusely that Jesus bore on the cross my sins and the sins of all people so we can be healed of the penalty of those sins and live for righteousness. I know that each one of us was like sheep going astray from the true fold before “the Son of Man [the great Shepherd] came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10). I praise Jesus that there could only be one Shepherd Whom You sent to seek and save our souls, as He said in John 10:11, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” I am in awe that the Shepherd has all power and all love to lay down His life for us, and to protect and guide us for our best good and for His glory. I say, “Hallelujah” that He is not only our Shepherd, but also the perfect Overseer (Universal Bishop, Superintendent, Guardian) of our souls, Who has all Your wisdom, authority, lordship, majesty, understanding, and infinitely more to govern our souls, now and for all eternity. I am deeply grateful to You and to Jesus that my soul is so very precious to You. As I think of Psalm 23:1, “The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” I pray that You will help me and all other believers know much more of His vastness so we will turn/return wholly to the Shepherd and Overseer of Your Souls, in Whom we lack nothing. In His faithful name I ask these things. Amen.
