SCRIPTURE READING:
2 Samuel 23:1-4
These are the last words of David:
“The inspired utterance of David son of Jesse,
the utterance of the man exalted by the Most High,
the man anointed by the God of Jacob,
the hero of Israel’s songs:
“The Spirit of the Lord spoke through me;
his word was on my tongue.
The God of Israel spoke,
the Rock of Israel said to me:
‘When one rules over people in righteousness,
when he rules in the fear of God,
he is like the light of morning at sunrise
on a cloudless morning,
like the brightness after rain
that brings grass from the earth.’
SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST prevails forever as the great Rock of Ages, the strong and secure foundation of all His people.
Dear Father, I rejoice that Jesus was the Rock of Israel in King David’s time, and that He is the Rock of all people, now and for all eternity. I love David’s song of praise in 2 Samuel 22, which includes: “The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God, the Rock, my Savior!” (verse 47). I praise the Rock of Israel through some of the verses of Bishop S.M. Lockridge’s poem about Christ, “That’s My King”: “He’s the king of glory; He’s enduringly strong; He’s eternally steadfast; He’s imperially powerful; He’s unparalleled and unprecedented; He supplies strength for the weak; He guards and He guides; He delivers the captives; His reign is righteous; He’s invincible; Death couldn’t handle Him; You can’t live without Him.” I pray that You will continually remind me and a growing number of other Christian leaders today of this immeasurable and incomparable greatness of the Rock of Israel. Please help us to hear and obey the directions He gave to David to rule over men in righteousness and in the fear of God. And please remove all hindrances in the hearts and minds of current Israeli leaders to receive Christ as their Rock. I pray all these things in His righteous name. Amen.
