Jesus is…
The Righteous for the Unrighteous

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.
Dear Father, The name/attribute of Christ, Righteous for the Unrighteous, seems to clearly capture His character and purpose for coming to earth. I revere Him that He Who is all-righteous (completely just, holy, clean, pure and innocent) came to suffer humiliation, rejection and scorn, including dying on the cross in the place of me and all other people who are unrighteous, unholy, impure and evil. I love how Paul confirms this in 2 Corinthians 5:21 by stating: “God made him [Christ] who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” I think also of what Paul said in Romans 5:8: “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” I pray that I and multitudes of other believers will become so devoted to Christ for His willingness to suffer for us that we will praise Him continually for all He is, thank Him continually for His mercy and love, and become willing to suffer in all ways He directs us for His magnificent glory. May we always be ready and willing to give an answer to everyone who asks us why we have this hope in Him. I pray these things in the righteous name of Jesus. Amen.
