SCRIPTURE READING:
Isaiah 64:6-9
All of us have become like one who is unclean,
and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;
we all shrivel up like a leaf,
and like the wind our sins sweep us away.
No one calls on your name
or strives to lay hold of you;
for you have hidden your face from us
and have given us over to our sins.
Yet you, Lord, are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.
Do not be angry beyond measure, Lord;
do not remember our sins forever.
Oh, look on us, we pray,
for we are all your people.
SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST, as Lord of all, shapes the lives and destinies of people and nations, especially those who are His own.
Dear Father, I am so glad that Jesus is the Potter of the whole world, and I am the work of His skilled, loving, creative and perfect hand. I marvel how Jesus, the Lord and Master of the universe, Who has all the power and wisdom to create and rule everything, foreknew me, fashioned me with perfect precision in His image, and has good plans for me. I confess that sometimes I am like the people of Israel in being unclean, having unrighteous acts, not calling on Your name nor striving to lay hold of You. I humbly pray that You will do whatever is necessary in my life to make me the most usable clay for the Potter. I submit wholly to His molding, fashioning, purifying, firing and all other steps He knows I need. I want to become the pure vessel He desires, so I can best serve Him and others. I sing some of Adelaide Pollard’s “Have Thine Own Way,” for myself and for all the Potter’s followers: “(verse 1) Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way! Thou art the Potter; I am the clay. Mold me and make me, After Thy will, While I am waiting, yielded and still. (verse 4) Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way! Hold o’er my being, Absolute sway! Fill with Thy Spirit, Till all shall see, Christ only, always, Living in me. ” Please help us be fresh, cleansed clay in His expert hands. We are His people for His glory. I pray all these things in His merciful name. Amen.
