Jesus is…
The One Who Serves

For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. You are those who have stood by me in my trials. And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Dear Father, I am deeply grateful that You sent Jesus, the Lord and Master of the whole universe, to earth as the One Who Serves. When Jesus talks about the greatness of one who sits at the table, compared to a person who serves, I cannot help but think of the immeasurable greatness of Jesus Himself. I exalt Him that He is the most revered and honored Person Who could ever sit at any table with any individual or group! Yet, I honor Him that He was willing to put aside His great authority to be the Servant of all servants, and the giver of all givers. I praise Him that all the attributes of a servant are maximized in Him: faithfulness, love, compassion, devotion, self-denial, patience, righteousness, grace, mercy, humility, tenderness, perseverance, wisdom and abundantly more. I especially remember what He did in John 13:5 with His disciples: “He poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.” I pray that You will help me and Jesus’ other followers to eagerly know all we possibly can about the One Who Serves, and to die to our self-centered natures and live totally in Him. And, I pray that scores of unsaved people around us who desperately need to experience (see, touch, feel) Jesus’ servant spirit will do so right away. I pray these things in His loving name. Amen.
