Zechariah 13:7

“Awake, sword, against my shepherd,
against the man who is close to me!”
declares the Lord Almighty.
“Strike the shepherd,
and the sheep will be scattered,
and I will turn my hand against the little ones.

The LORD JESUS CHRIST, is the most intimate Person to the Father, and at the same time, He draws close to His people.

Dear Father, I am deeply moved by the severity of today’s Scripture verse. I am stunned at how You commanded the sword of justice to awaken, so it could be used against Your Son: Who is the Shepherd of Your flock, and the Man Who is Close to Me (You). I can only imagine the unparalleled closeness that You have had for all eternity with Your most beloved companion and co-equal. I think of John’s proclamation in John 1:1 that: “In the beginning was the Word [Jesus], and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” I am filled with awe of the majesty of Jesus, and at the same time, an intense gratitude for Your sacrifice and His sacrifice, for me and the rest of humanity. The words of verse 3 of Charles Wesley’s hymn, “And Can It Be” flood into my mind: “He left His Father’s throne above, So free, so infinite His grace—And bled for Adam’s helpless race: ‘Tis mercy all, immense and free, For O my God, it found out me.” Jesus is my hope, my love and my life. He is my ALL. I pray that the Holy Spirit will give me and all believers an all-consuming desire to dwell in the perfect closeness that You and Jesus have with each other. I pray that the people all around us who have not yet known Jesus as their Savior/Shepherd will very soon see Him as He really is and come into His flock. In the name of the Man Who is Close to Me I pray these things. Amen.
