The Man They Are Trying to Kill

SCRIPTURE READING:
John 7:21-27
Jesus said to them, “I did one miracle, and you are all amazed. Yet, because Moses gave you circumcision (though actually it did not come from Moses, but from the patriarchs), you circumcise a boy on the Sabbath. Now if a boy can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing a man’s whole body on the Sabbath? Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.”
At that point some of the people of Jerusalem began to ask, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill? Here he is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying a word to him. Have the authorities really concluded that he is the Messiah? But we know where this man is from; when the Messiah comes, no one will know where he is from.”
SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST was known to be the man the Jewish leaders were trying to kill for using His authority beyond their religious laws.
Dear Father, I praise Jesus that He had a complete understanding of the letter of the Law and the spirit of the Law, and, at the same time, He was filled with Your love and mercy for the many needy people He came in contact with. I honor Him that He did not come to earth to break the Law, but to fulfill it, and that He always obeyed Your highest will by speaking the truth and caring for people even if His words and actions caused the religious leaders to falsely judge Him. I am deeply grateful that Jesus was willing to become the Man They are Trying to Kill, for the sake of the Jewish people of His day, and for all people after that (including me). I pray that there will be no confusion among His followers today about Who He is. May Your Spirit very clearly reveal the majesty, righteousness, love, wisdom, power, grace, truth, justice and all the rest of the great Messiah’s attributes to believers everywhere, so that we will wholeheartedly revere, honor, adore, obey and totally abandon ourselves to Him. I pray that ALL people will very soon experience the manifest presence of Christ. In His name I pray these things. Amen.
