SCRIPTURE READING:
John 1:47-49
When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”
“How do you know me?” Nathanael asked.
Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”
Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”
SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST is the final leader of the chosen people.
Dear Father, Thank You for the stunning way Jesus revealed to Nathanael that He was the Son of God and the King of Israel. I rejoice that Philip told Nathanael that Jesus was the Messiah and invited him to meet Jesus, and that when Jesus displayed the supreme knowledge that only Your divine Son possesses, Nathanael was assured that He was the King the people of Israel had been longing and praying for centuries. I praise Jesus that He alone fulfills the Psalm 132:11 prophecy: “The Lord swore an oath to David, a sure oath that He will not revoke: ‘One of your descendants I will place on your throne.’” I know that the people of Israel, and probably Nathanael too, were eagerly expecting that the Messiah would be a conquering earthly King, but I praise Him that He was then, and is forever, the eternal, King of Israel and King of the Universe, Who is far beyond what they could ask or imagine! All glory to the great King! I pray that You will reveal to me and to all other believers today exactly Who the Son of God and King of Israel is, and that we will worship Him, submit ourselves to Him entirely, and make His greatness known to one another and to all His potential subjects (currently unsaved people) we can. My heart cries out that many of those future subjects of the King will be Jews from around the world today. In the King’s name I pray these things. Amen.
