Jesus is…
The I Am

Jesus replied, “If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me. Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.”
“You are not yet fifty years old,” they said to him, “and you have seen Abraham!”
“Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.
Dear Father, I am especially in awe of Jesus’ declaration of the truth (“very truly”) that He is I AM. All glory to I AM because the Jews, who heard this declaration in person, clearly knew that He was not just claiming to have been born before their patriarch, Abraham, but that He is the eternal God. I am so grateful for the affirmation of this when You directed Moses in Exodus 3:14 to tell the Israelites that Your name is “I AM WHO I AM.” I praise Jesus that He is all-powerful, all-wise, all-holy, all-present, all-sovereign and infinitely more (as You are). I pray that the Holy Spirit will continually remind all believers of the incomparable greatness of Jesus, the I AM, and that we will worship Him with our whole hearts, continually speak of His vastness to one another, devote every part of our lives to Him, and earnestly pray for His dominion over us. I pray that, as Jesus said in today’s Scripture passage and in other places like John 17, that You will glorify I AM and He will glorify You. I fervently desire this to happen at this chaotic hour in history. I pray that masses of unsaved people will be so amazed with Who I AM is, that they will plead with Him to come into their lives. I ask all these things in the name of I AM. Amen.
