SCRIPTURE READING:
Acts 4:23-31
On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David:
“‘Why do the nations rage
and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth rise up
and the rulers band together
against the Lord
and against his anointed one.
Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen. Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST is God’s perfect messenger to the world.
Dear Father, I love that today’s Scripture brings together some Old and New Testament truths about Christ. All honor that He is Your Anointed One (Messiah) Whom King David prophesied about in Psalm 2, and Who the believers in Acts 4 knew was Your Holy Servant Jesus. I bless Jesus, the all-Holy One You sent to earth to perfectly serve mankind by revealing Who You are, and by giving His life as the Savior from our sins. I am very alarmed that today “the kings of the earth band together against the Lord and against his anointed one,” in the same manner that Herod and Pilate “met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel to conspire against your holy servant Jesus.” As Peter, John and the other early believers prayed, I pray You will compel believers today to speak boldly about His greatness. Please stretch out Your hand and perform miraculous signs and wonders through His name (including “shaking” anything that needs to be “shaken”). I pray that the Spirit will move so powerfully, that all who have been opposing Christ will be on their faces in humility before Him. In Jesus’ name I ask these things. Amen.
