Jesus is…
The Holy One of God

They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
Dear Father, I can well imagine that the people who heard Jesus teach in the synagogue were amazed by His authority. I am extremely amazed by His authority! I am very grieved that there were some Jews in His time of earthly ministry who wanted to discredit Him by suggesting that His authority came from demons (Matthew 12:24). But, I am very glad that the evil spirit written about in today’s Scripture passage knew exactly Who Jesus is—the Holy One of God. I praise Jesus that He is the Messianic One Whom King David writes about in Psalm 16:10, “Because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one [Holy One] see decay.” I exalt Jesus that in Him dwells the fullness of Your holiness. I worship Him that He alone is the Holy One You sent to earth to pay the penalty for mankind’s sin, so that all who receive Him are forever set apart (holy) in Him! I pray that You will give us a passion to know every aspect we can of the Holy One of God. I pray also that we will live such radically holy lives that Jesus will receive much glory and honor, and that lost men, women, young people and children around us will be crying out to receive Him too. I ask these things in the righteous name of Jesus. Amen.
