The Great Shepherd of the Sheep

Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Dear Father, I exalt the Lord Jesus, the Great Shepherd of the Sheep. I know that only He Who is Lord of all and Emmanuel, could be the Great Shepherd of the Sheep (His sheep), because He gave His blood and fulfilled the eternal covenant. I am humbled by the first word in today’s name, “Great,” as it applies to Hebrews 4:14, “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.” I am in awe that ALL of Jesus’ great high priestly ability is also part of Him as the Great Shepherd of the Sheep. At the same time, I am greatly strengthened and comforted by several Scripture passages where Jesus explains His role as shepherd of His beloved sheep (followers), including John 10:2-4, “The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.” I pray that I and all other believers will know the Great Shepherd of the Sheep so well that we will submit ourselves wholly to Him and follow wherever He leads. Glory to Jesus forever and ever. In His great name I pray these things. Amen.
