Revelation 22:7-9a, 9b-10, 12-13
“Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.”
I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!”
But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!”
Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this scroll, because the time is near.
“Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST is the originator and completer of all good for all time.
Dear Father, As I think about Jesus stating that He is the First and the Last (as well as the Alpha and the Omega and the Beginning and the End), my hope in Him abounds, and my joy that He is “coming soon” abounds. Through the name of Jesus, the First and the Last, I understand His supremacy more clearly, and I am compelled to do what the angel commanded John: “Worship God!” I rejoice that there are no limitations on what Christ is the First and the Last of. I can barely imagine the divine authority He has always had, and will always have as the First and the Last. I praise Him for the vast ways He is First: First to know, love and communicate with You; First in mastery over death and darkness; First in righteousness, sacrifice and obedience to You; First in unconditional love; First in expressing the fullness of the Godhead; First as Your Exact Representation; First as the creator of the universe; First as the forgiver of sins; First as judge of all mankind; First to give His life as a servant; First to make disciples; and, First to rule the heavens and the earth. I worship Christ that He is The Last (the conclusion, final) of ALL He is First of! May all His people exalt the Lord Jesus Christ that He is the sum-total of all good! In His all-surpassing name I pray these things. Amen
