Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, will be with us in truth and love.
It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us. And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist. Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
Dear Father, I love it that John calls Jesus Christ the Father’s Son. What a precious affirmation of the relationship You and Your Son have. I remember a number of places in the Bible where You are referred to as the “Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” I praise You and Your Son that there has never been a more perfect example of the statement “Like Father, like Son,” since Your Son is the perfect likeness of His Father. This reminds me of the many ways Jesus refers to the intimacy You have with each other, including John 10:37-38, “Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father. But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.” I rejoice that You and Jesus have had that wonderful Father/ Son relationship for all eternity: with the highest love, respect, oneness, trust, truth, submission, obedience, adoration and all the other categories He expresses in John 17. With all my heart, I want to live in all the grace, mercy and peace from You and Your Son, and be with You in all truth and love. And, please help me to live in all of Jesus’ teaching, so that I have all of the Father and the Son. I pray these things in the name of the Father’s Son. Amen.
