SCRIPTURE READING:
Luke 2:41-49

Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”

“Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?”

SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST displayed obedience to God even as a young person.

Dear Father, I am impressed that the Boy Jesus at twelve years old (when by Jewish custom He became a “son of the law”) was sitting with the teachers of the law, intently listening to what they said, asking questions, and answering their questions. I praise Jesus that everyone who heard Him was amazed at His understanding and answers, and that He clearly knew Who He was, Who You (His Father) were, and His mission from You as the Messiah. I honor Him that even at a young age, He was resolutely progressing towards fulfilling that mission. I am deeply impacted by His absolute devotion to You, as a boy and later as a man. I pray that multitudes of Christian boys and young men across America will become aware of the righteous character of the Boy Jesus and His devotion to You, and that the Holy Spirit will kindle a fire in them to radically live in all Jesus is. I pray the same for our girls and young women too. Please “fix their eyes” upon Jesus. I pray these things in His amazing name. Amen.
