Jesus is…
A Priest Forever in the Order of Melchizedek

The Lord says to my lord:
“Sit at my right hand
until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet.”
The Lord will extend your mighty scepter from Zion, saying,
“Rule in the midst of your enemies!”
Your troops will be willing
on your day of battle.
Arrayed in holy splendor,
your young men will come to you
like dew from the morning’s womb.
The Lord has sworn
and will not change his mind:
“You are a priest forever,
in the order of Melchizedek.”
The Lord is at your right hand;
he will crush kings on the day of his wrath.
He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead
and crushing the rulers of the whole earth.
He will drink from a brook along the way,
and so he will lift his head high.
Dear Father, I am greatly in awe that, at this one and only time, You swore the solemn oath and command that Your Son is the Priest Forever, in the Order of Melchizedek. I praise Him that His life and His priesthood have no beginning and no end. I rejoice that the foundation of all Christ does in and for the Church is laid in His priestly office, whereby He made atonement and reconciliation for sin. I am so grateful for the absolute assurance that we believers have of eternal life through the Priest Forever, from many Scripture passages like Hebrews 6:19-20, “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” I think of how Melchizedek was referred to as the “King of Salem,” or the “King of Peace.” I pray that You will help me and all Christ’s followers today to live in the fullness of righteousness and peace we have through our beloved Jesus, the Priest Forever, in the Order of Melchizedek. I pray these things in His holy name. Amen.
