SCRIPTURE READING:
Psalm 23:1-6

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.

SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST was sent to the world to become the lead pastor and caregiver of the congregation of His saints.

Dear Father, Today’s name of Christ, the Shepherd, is one of His most amazing and reassuring names! I bless the Shepherd that He is the great Pastor, as well as the Redeemer and Preserver of men. I am deeply grateful that He completely guides, guards, provides for and lays down His life for me and all people who receive and follow Him. I rejoice that we can unquestionably say with King David, “The Lord is MY Shepherd,” and know with all certainty that because of His absolute authority and His absolute love for us, “I [we shall] lack nothing.” I marvel at the full magnitude of the Shepherd’s provision for us: “He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right [righteous] paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley [of the shadow of death], I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” I pray that I and all His sheep will follow our Shepherd wherever He leads. I ask these things in His beloved name. Amen.
