My Servant, the Branch

“‘Listen, High Priest Joshua, you and your associates seated before you, who are men symbolic of things to come: I am going to bring my servant, the Branch. See, the stone I have set in front of Joshua! There are seven eyes on that one stone, and I will engrave an inscription on it,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and I will remove the sin of this land in a single day.
Dear Father, I marvel how in this Scripture passage, two words that refer to the Messiah—the Servant and the Branch—are brought together. I bless Jesus, the supreme Servant, Who obeys and serves You with His whole being, and Who serves me and all of mankind, by giving His life (“in a single day”) for our sins. This reminds me of what Hebrews 9:26b says about Christ’s servanthood: “But he has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.” At the same time, I am deeply grateful that Jesus is the original Branch through Whom His followers receive all Your beauty, excellence, fragrance, fruit, life and promises. Thank You so much that You sent Your beloved Servant, the Branch to earth, and set (placed) Him as the most precious foundation stone of the Church. I am excited to know that the perfect number of eyes (including Yours) will be focused on Him for all time. I pray that You will help me and increasing numbers of His followers die to ourselves and live fully in Him. May so much fruit burst forth from our lives that when we “invite our neighbors” to consider Him, they will eagerly desire to “sit under your vine and fig tree.” I ask these things in His bountiful name. Amen.
