SCRIPTURE READING:
Psalm 71:3-8
Be my rock of refuge,
to which I can always go;
give the command to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.
Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel.
For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord,
my confidence since my youth.
From birth I have relied on you;
you brought me forth from my mother’s womb.
I will ever praise you.
I have become a sign to many;
you are my strong refuge.
My mouth is filled with your praise,
declaring your splendor all day long.
SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST, by dying, rising and ascending on high guarantees everything God has promised for His people.
Dear Father, This passage points me to Paul’s opening declaration in 1 Timothy 1:1, “Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus, by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our Hope.” Yes, Jesus Himself is THE enduring Hope of the world. I praise Him that ALL hope for His followers is in Him! I pray that I and all other believers in our region and beyond will be convinced of this incomparable truth, that Paul also states in Colossians 1:27, “To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Please urge us moment by moment to be messengers of all that our glorious Hope is to one another, and to every lost person You bring into our lives. Help us to “hold unswervingly to the hope we profess” (Hebrews 10:23). May our “mouths be filled with praise of him, declaring his splendor all day long.” I pray these things in Jesus’ hope-filled name. Amen.
