SCRIPTURE READING:
Psalm 18:1-3

I love you, Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
and I have been saved from my enemies.

SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST, by the full extent of His saving work, provides complete protection of all who trust in Him.

Dear Father, I am so glad the Lord Jesus is my Fortress! I think of all that a fortress represents—a stronghold, a fortified town, a source of refuge, a high place, and many more settings that provide me and all others who reside there with complete and eternal safety, security, protection, deliverance and rest. I rejoice that our bodies, minds and souls are under His all-powerful lordship, and that we can put our trust in Him at all times. I exalt Jesus that He combines all there is of strength, rock, fortress, deliverer, refuge, shield, horn of my salvation, and stronghold. I agree with King David in calling out to the Fortress to save me, my family, the whole Church, and all people. I join with Martin Luther in singing some of “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”: (verse 1) A mighty fortress is our God, A bulwark never failing: Our helper He, amid the flood, Of mortal ills prevailing. For still our ancient foe, Doth seek to work us woe; His craft and power are great, And, armed with cruel hate, On earth is not his equal. (verse 2) Did we in our own strength confide, Our striving would be losing, Were not the right Man on our side, the Man of God’s own choosing. Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He; Lord Sabaoth His Name, From age to age the same, And He must win the battle.” Jesus, the mighty Fortress, is worthy of praise! In His name I pray these things. Amen.
