SCRIPTURE READING:
Amos 9:5-6

The Lord, the Lord Almighty—
he touches the earth and it melts,
and all who live in it mourn;
the whole land rises like the Nile,
then sinks like the river of Egypt;
he builds his lofty palace in the heavens
and sets its foundation on the earth;
he calls for the waters of the sea
and pours them out over the face of the land—
the Lord is his name.

SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST will one day bring down God’s judgments upon the whole earth, especially on those who have refused Him.

Dear Father, I am sorry that the people of Israel were refusing to turn from their evil ways during Amos’ time. I am in awe that You appointed the Lord Jesus to administer justice to His people during that era, and for all time. I revere Him for the many ways His omnipotence is described throughout the Book of Amos, like Amos 4:13, “He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to dark-ness, and treads the heights of the earth—the Lord God Almighty is his name.” I praise Him that today’s name, He Who Touches the Earth and it Melts, is one of Amos’ most fearsome names or attributes of the Lord Jesus. All glory and honor to the One Who can touch any part of the earth and cause it to melt in judgment, or do anything else He deter-mines. I exalt the almighty creator and judge of the universe. I pray that You will continually remind me and Christ’s other followers about His vast Lordship, so that we will repent of all confidence we have had in our-selves, and give our bodies, minds, souls and strength wholly to Him. At the same time, I pray that He will touch huge numbers of unsaved people everywhere with His redeeming love and power, and that they will quickly turn from refusing Him and being subject to melting under His eternal judgment. I pray these things in His almighty name. Amen.
