Jesus is…
God Who Raises the Dead

We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.
Dear Father, This incident powerfully affirms my confidence in Jesus, the God Who Raises the Dead. I praise Him for the power and authority He demonstrated when He raised Jairus’ daughter, the widow of Nain’s son, and Lazarus from the dead. I am gripped with today’s Scripture passage about when Paul and some other disciples he was with believed they were certain to die—they had no power to save themselves nor could any other humans intervene for them. They were as powerless as if they were already dead. I rejoice that all they could do was cast themselves on the protection and deliverance of Jesus, the only One Who had sufficient power to raise people from the dead, and thus, sufficient power to save them from death. Thank You for this amazing lesson in Paul’s and his companions’ lives to trust the God Who Raises the Dead at all times, and in all situations. I pray You will help me and other believers to know Jesus as thoroughly as Paul did, to grow in that same reliance upon Him as Paul had, and to set our hope on Him as Paul did. I pray these things in the name of Jesus, our hope. Amen.
