Jesus is…
A Shoot From the Stump of Jesse

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,
the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—
and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.
He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes,
or decide by what he hears with his ears;
but with righteousness he will judge the needy,
with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.
He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth;
with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.
Righteousness will be his belt
and faithfulness the sash around his waist.
The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling together;
and a little child will lead them.
The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling together;
and a little child will lead them.
They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.
Dear Father, What an amazing prophecy this is about the Messiah! I am in awe that King David (with whom You made a covenant that his descendants would always sit on his throne), descended from the humble Jesse. All glory to Jesus that David’s descendants had fallen from power, and You sent Him, as a humble Shoot from the roots of the Stump of Jesse, to grow into a Branch to bear the complete reign and fruit of Your kingdom. I rejoice that the Holy Spirit came to rest upon Jesus (in the form of a dove) as He was baptized in the Jordan River, and that He has all the fullness of the Godhead abiding in Him. I am so grateful that Jesus governs His kingdom with absolute justice and righteousness, and that one day “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD” and His perfect peace. I pray that I and all believers will worship the Shoot Who will come up From the Stump of Jesse, and submit every part of our lives to His sovereign rule. I pray these things in the name of King Jesus. Amen.
