SCRIPTURE READING:
Matthew 20:25-28

Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST, the pure servant, paid the penalty to set men free from their sin.

Dear Father, I rejoice that the redeeming purpose for the Son of Man’s life on earth was to be a Ransom for Many. It is hard for me to comprehend that You and He loved me and all the billions of other people so much that He was willing to pay the ultimate price to liberate us from eternal captivity to sin. What an amazing way Jesus “practiced what He preached” in today’s Scripture about being a servant (even a slave) of others! I know that I was 100% guilty of my sin, and so is every other person. But, I praise Him that He took our place, our suffering, our condemnation and our punishment on Himself. I thank Him with all my heart that I and the millions of other people who have received His gift of ransom, are gloriously alive in Him, now and forever! I shout “Hallelujah” for our certain assurance that Paul proclaims in Romans 8:1-2, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” What a Savior Christ is! What a Servant! What a Ransom for Many! I pray that You will fill believers with a fresh, overflowing thanksgiving and praise to the Ransom for Many, and please put an intense longing for ransom from sin into the hearts and minds of lost people all around us. I pray these things in Jesus’ serving name. Amen.
