Jesus is…
A Kernel of Wheat

Jesus replied, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.
“Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name!”
Then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.”
Dear Father, I praise Jesus, the Son of Man, Who fulfills “the truth” of the Kernel of Wheat falling to the ground and dying so that many seeds (me and mil-lions of other people receiving eternal life) might be produced from Him. I am eternally grateful that He was willing to come to earth to lose His life for our sake. I rejoice that You and the Son of Man are both glorified through His life and through His obedient death on the cross. I grieve that so many people who saw and heard the Kernel of Wheat in person rejected Him. I pray that those of us who are living now and have received Him will glorify Him, devote ourselves to knowing the depths of Who He is, die to ourselves, serve Him and others, and speak of His greatness and love to everyone. Please help us to say what the hymn, “Oh, To Be Like Thee” by Thomas Chisholm, says: (verse 1) “Oh, to be like Thee! Blessed Redeemer, This is my constant longing and prayer. Gladly I’ll forfeit all of earth’s treasures, Jesus, Thy perfect likeness to wear. (chorus) Oh, to be like Thee! Oh, to be like Thee, Blessed Redeemer, pure as Thou art; Come in Thy sweetness, come in Thy fullness; Stamp Thine own image deep on my heart.” I pray that seeds from the Kernel of Wheat’s death will fill the earth with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord. In His name I pray these things. Amen.
