SCRIPTURE READING:
Romans 1:1-4
Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.
SIGNIFICANCE:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST, as a human being, is in the lineage of King David.
Dear Father, Thank You for this affirmation that Your Son Jesus (as to His human nature) is the resurrected Descendant of (King) David, Who was promised in many Old Testament prophesies like Solomon’s prayer in 2 Chronicles 6:16-17, “Now LORD, the God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father the promises you made to him when you said, ‘You shall never fail to have a successor to sit before me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants are careful in all they do to walk before me according to my law, as you have done.’ And now, LORD, the God of Israel, let your word that you promised your servant David come true.” I rejoice that as You called David “a man after your own heart” in 1 Samuel 13:14, truly Jesus is “a man after Your own heart” far more so. As David was chosen by You to rule Israel, Jesus is chosen by You, as Messiah, King and Lord, to rule all people. Please help me and all believers to submit completely to the rule of the Descendant of David. I pray these things in the name of our great king, Jesus. Amen.
