The National Bible Bee Is Amazing!
What if We Sponsored a
“National JESUS Bee”?

Did you even know there is a “National Bible Bee”? The New York Times reported:

The National Bible Bee competition…demands feats of memorization that make the National Spelling Bee look like a game of tic-tac-toe. Memorize nearly 1,000 Bible verses? For these young Christians, it’s game on.

I wondered: What if we had an adult “National JESUS Bee?” What if participants came prepared to talk about Jesus around specific topics—such as his preexistence, his reign today, his inexhaustible riches, his headship of the Church—drawing on Scripture during their responses?

Would anyone even sign up to compete?

There’s much more to these questions than you might think. They take us where we desperately need to go—for the sake of our own life in Christ. Let me tell you why.

A Nation Awash in Violence:
The Only Way to Hit the Restart Button

A reporter for the BBC witnessed the attempted assassination of the former President. To him, that one violent act and many people’s reaction to it represented what he’s been witnessing for years in America.

One man approached me and simply said: “They shot first. This is [expletive] war.” Another just yelled “civil war” as he passed behind me.

He wrapped up his article with this larger observation:

America has been spiraling towards this moment for years—a political culture that is not just adversarial but downright poisonous . . it’s become part of the nation’s DNA to hate.

Before World War II, most Christians in Nazi Germany had such an anemic vision of Christ that they easily succumbed to the lure of granting one political “strong man” the right to take over all levers of government power to save them from their perceived enemies and to heal them of their financial, social, and psychological battering.

Simultaneously, the Nazis formed a new religion called "The German Church" that essentially left Christ out altogether.
