Discovering How Jesus Is the
Great Pacemaker of Our Hearts

[NOTE: My friend Steve Hall, a leader with International Renewal Ministries, has faithfully labored for a Christ Awakening in the Pacific Northwest for decades. Recently, he wrote the letter below to all his friends after a significant health crisis. I asked his permission to share it with the CHRIST NOW family. What Steve discovered will bless all Jesus followers.]

Hello, my brothers and sisters in Jesus!
I hope this letter won’t be seen as my trying to get sympathy for a personal medical condition. Not at all. Instead, I want to share a fresh insight with you about the person of our marvelous Lord Jesus Christ.
It Begins With This Short Story
For quite a while, my heart rate has been dangerously low, and my blood pressure has been increasingly high. While I was in my cardiologist’s office in early March, they discovered a heart block—an electrical issue—which was keeping about half of the electrical heartbeat signals from the upper chambers of my heart from reaching the lower chambers. This problem was also contributing to my blood pressure being quite high.
The nurse at Overlake Hospital told me that they were going to wheel me downstairs to the ER to have a pacemaker implanted. Surprise! They even brought a “crash cart” into my ER room in case my heart stopped beating.
The next day, I did receive a pacemaker. My heart muscle is strong and my heart arteries are clear, so I’m very grateful that the pacemaker is now consistently “pacing” my heart rate within a normal, healthy range. That, along with some medications, has reduced the demand on my heart to pump, so my BP has become much lower. Thank you, Lord!
This Experience Gave Me a New Spiritual Insight:
JESUS Is the Great Pacemaker of Our Hearts!
As I lay in my hospital bed after my pacemaker surgery, and in the couple weeks since then, I have gained a fresh (and hope-filled) insights into how Jesus works in our lives like a pacemaker.
He’s the Great Pacemaker because He makes, sets, and maintains the pace—first of all, for all of His creation—but also for every minute of my life!
He’s the Great Pacemaker because He is the one who is supreme over ALL things in heaven and on earth, reconciling it all back to the Father (Colossians 1:18).
He is the Great Pacemaker for the souls of all who belong to Him. Always with us, He is our health, our preservation, our eternal hope. With every beat of our hearts, He is our ALL!
I am more convinced than ever of what the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 1:21: “to live is Christ”—now and forever!
We absolutely cannot live the fruitful lives that glorify Jesus without Him keeping our physical hearts—and our “spiritual hearts”—beating faithfully for His glory and His Kingdom purposes.
Let’s join together
in knowing our Great Pacemaker more—
loving Him more, praising and thanking Him more,
giving more of our lives to Him,
and talking about Him more with everyone we possibly can!
As the Great Pacemaker, may the Lord Jesus Christ soon “jump-start” a Christ-exalting revival in the Church and throughout the desperate world around us!
CHRIST IS ALL!
Steve Hall
