So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. When he made love to her, the Lord enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a son. The women said to Naomi: “Praise be to the Lord, who this day has not left you without a guardian-redeemer. May he become famous throughout Israel! He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better to you than seven sons, has given him birth.”
Then Naomi took the child in her arms and cared for him. The women living there said, “Naomi has a son!” And they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.
Dear Father, I bless You for bringing together Boaz and Ruth to show the powerful value of a Guardian (Kinsman)-Redeemer, and to be a significant part of the earthly lineage of King David, and thus, Jesus. Thank You for deciding in the council of the Godhead before the beginning of time that mankind would need Him (one of our earthly “kin”) from the line of David, to know our earthly temptations and needs, and to give His perfect, sinless life to redeem us from our sins. I rejoice that Jesus, the Savior, the only qualified Guardian-Redeemer, completely loves us, paid the price for our redemption, takes us into His family, provides for us, protects us, and gives us eternal life. What a privilege to be joint-heirs with Him and abide in Him forever! All my hope is in Him. I pray these things in His redeeming name. Amen.
